What's Cool About Our School???

News Chanel 24 came to visit our school last week. They came to check out What is Cool About Our School. We don't have to toot our own horn. News Chanel 24 did that for us. Watch the video to see our class doing one of our morning meeting greetings. We love Hello Neighbor.

Hooked on a Good Book

My students received a big box of new books last month.  My Weird School Daze, National Geographic Readers, Ready-To-Read Stories of Famous Americans, Shredderman, and Stink were a few of the titles included. These are all high interest series that my students have enjoyed. We would like to thank all the people who gave to our Donors Choose project. Their support and donations have added these great books to our classroom library.

Time to Play Outside

The students were very excited to get to open four boxes from our Time to Play Outside Donors Choose grant. About half of our materials came today. We are ready for some cooler weather and fun days at recess.

Grandparents Breakfast

WOW!!! We had a great turn out for our Grandparents Breakfast. Over 500 grandparents joined us for breakfast this week. We would like to thank all our grandparents who came to visit our school.

iLearn with our iPad

I am now teaching a Tech Savvy generation. One of the newest pieces of technology is the iPad. The iPad helps to integrate up-to-date technology into our classroom. Different apps for the iPad help to meet all my students' learning levels. Our class got a new iPad from donations to Donors Choose. We would like to thank you for your donations and support.

Welcome to 2nd Grade

I would like to welcome everyone to our classroom blog.  School will be starting soon and I am working to get everything ready.  I would like to share a little about myself. This is my 20th year to teach.  I have been at White Station Elementary for 17 years. My undergraduate degree was received from the University of  Tennessee at Martin. I attended Bethel College and Union University for my master’s degree.

Donors Choose

Our class has a new set of Math Center Activities.  We received our Donors Choose materials back in October.  The students have enjoyed the hands-on learning while using the new center activities.

A Visit from the Peabody Ducks

Our school was selected to host the Peabody Ducks. One of our students was the honorary Duck Master.  The Peabody Duck Master marched the ducks in, shared some interesting facts about the ducks, and read us a story. This was one of the duck’s last stops before they were re-released back into nature.

Character Day 2012

Character Day is a fun and exciting day every year.  Students select a character from a book they have read.  They come to school dressed as that character. My students wrote a report on their character and shared it with their classmates. We all go outside to the track and have a Character Day Parade.

Watch D.O.G.S.

Our school has wonderful Watch Dog program.  Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) gives our students an opportunity to have more positive men as role models active in our school. Fathers, grandfathers, brothers, uncles, and father figures come and volunteer for a day or half day with the students at our school.

Lunch with the Principal

Our students earn “Caught You Being Good” tickets from the staff members daily.  Every Friday four ticket are drawn out of the collection jars. Those students get to have lunch with the principal. Our adopters Chick-fil-A donates lunch each Friday for these students. So far this year we have had four winners.

Principal Edwards

Our class was very honored last week to have a student serve as Principal for the Day. Principal Edwards was awarded this honor after being the top seller for our fall fundraiser. Principal Edwards did the morning announcements, a teacher’s evaluation, graded the Math Hall-of-Fame tests, and passed out the Cool Cafeteria treats. The students who were selected to eat Lunch with the Principal enjoyed an nice Chick-fil-A lunch with Principal Edwards.
